More on Alternative Plans

Dave’s ESL Cafe (http://www.daveseslcafe.com) is a website that addresses the job option of teaching English in a foreign country.  As an alternative to working in the states in this awful economy, it may be worth it to look into traveling abroad or even teaching English in another country.  The website provides an online center for teachers and students around the world who are interested in teaching english as a second language to non-native speakers.

ESL programs across the globe are one way in which young people that are unsure of what career field they want to enter can take some extra time to explore and weigh their professional opportunities.  Those who have participated in similar programs have said that their experiences in traveling and teaching English abroad were of incredible value.  Imagine the memories that one would have in picking up and working in another country.  A new culture, unique food, interesting people.  Not to mention, the great service one would provide in educating those in less-fortunate countries.  Teaching ESL is definitely a great option to look into, and one to keep in mind during these difficult months.

I’ve also found Dave’s ESL cafe to be a wonderful source of research on the subject.

I also don’t understand why in the states, employers generally frown upon individuals taking “time off” from their careers to travel or live abroad. I would expect that businesses that focus on globalization would find individuals with such experiences, aspirations, and motivations admirable.
